Pastoral Care Officer
Based at our Lismore NSW office
Full-time, permanent position. Start date to be negotiated with the successful candidate.

Position Purpose:
The Pastoral Care Officer will work collaboratively with system staff in the area of pastoral care and wellbeing for students, staff and families within the school environment by:
- Providing expertise to schools in building the necessary cultural capacity to support authentic and effective whole-school approaches.
- Providing professional and practical advice to schools in relation to the spiritual academic, social, emotional and physical wellbeing of students and of school communities.
- Engage in planning and evaluations to promote improved pastoral care, wellbeing and learning outcomes.
This role supports the underlying Mission of Catholic Education in the Diocese of Lismore by delivering services that contribute to enabling students to achieve the fullness of life.
Work Requirements:
- A current/valid Australian Driver’s Licence and eligibility to work within Australia for the period of the appointment
- Compliance with Accreditation to Work Teach and Lead as prescribed by the Bishops of NSW, or working towards accreditation at the appropriate level upon commencement.
- Hold a valid NSW Working with Children Check, or ability to obtain if the successful candidate
- Requirement to travel between locations.
Qualifications:
- Appropriate qualifications in education.
Specialised qualifications or training in fields such as case management, complex mental health, trauma informed practice education, etc. are desirable.
Work Experience:
- At least five years’ experience in a school wellbeing role with demonstrated capacity to support student learning and wellbeing outcomes across a whole school.
Key Capabilities:
- Demonstrated ability to influence change.
- Demonstrated successful experience working with adults, children or young people in a pastoral care, wellbeing, mental health or related field.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise, negotiate, advocate, and resolve conflicts.
- Experience and/or training in providing support to children and/or young people to address social and emotional needs.
- Experience and/or training in providing support to school communities during and post critical incidents.
- Ability to support schools and teachers to identify and develop educational, social and emotional initiatives to support children and young people who are vulnerable or at risk.
- Ability to liaise with community service organisations.
- Well-developed organisational and time management skills with the capacity to work effectively both independently, as well as part of a multidisciplinary pastoral care team.
