Overview of school:

St Ambrose Primary School opened in 2015 and is located in the small seaside community of Pottsville. St Ambrose is a two streamed Catholic Primary School (K-6 co-educational) with a student population of 373 students. The school is an Apple Distinguished School which reflects the manner in which technology is embedded within the school across all curriculum areas. Students from Years 3 to 6 benefit from one-to-one iPad devices, enhancing their learning experience.

In addition to this, the school has recently formed a professional partnership with Southern Cross University and the Diocese of Lismore Catholic Schools Limited to support a teacher training initiative within the school. The Assistant Principal - Learning and Teaching would assist in the development and implementation of this program.

St Ambrose has also introduced a “coaching” framework, encouraging active staff participation to promote continuous professional growth. The school prides itself on a motivated, collaborative staff team dedicated to excellence in all aspects of education.

Overview of role:

The Assistant Principal - Learning and Teaching has a co-responsible leadership role in contributing to the ongoing creation of the parish school as an animated, effective center of Catholic identity and mission which ignites students’ passion to live an intentional faith life within the Church.

Applicants must: 

  • hold a valid NSW Working with Children Check
  • have full accreditation with NSW Educational Standards Authority (NESA)
  • comply with the Accreditation to Work Teach and Lead Policy upon appointment
  • be a practising Catholic who witnesses to Catholic beliefs and practices.

Selection Criteria: 

  • Relevant teaching and post graduate qualifications at Masters Level in Educational Leadership or equivalent, or willingness to obtain
  • Broad experience in curriculum, pedagogy and leading collaborative cultures
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate Catholic beliefs and practices into all aspects of learning and teaching, including Catholic Social Teaching
  • Demonstrated high levels of organisation, communication and problem solving skills
  • Experience in leading initiatives that focus on improving learning, engagement and wellbeing outcomes for all students
  • Success in building staff capacity by coaching, mentoring and school wide activities that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others
  • Demonstrated ability to lead processes to improve student performance
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain inclusive, supportive and safe learning environments
  • Willingness to lead adult learning with a focus on improved learning engagement and learning outcomes
  • Ability to read and analyse data to inform research objectives
